The 18 hole par 73 course was designed by Baldovino Dassù and Alvise Rossi Fioravanti and built to USGA standards. Opened for play in 1995, it was immediately recognized by the popular Italian magazine "Il Mondo del Golf" as the best new golf course in Italy, and it has been building an international reputation as one of the finest in Italy. It was recently selected by "Condè Nast Traveller" for its "Hot List" as "The best Golf Club", ahead of the likes of the K Club in Ireland and the Greebrier in the USA. The course is 6.397 meters long, 5.091 from the Ladies Tees, and 6.519 meters or 7.139 yards from the Championship Tees. A further 9 holes are due to be constructed shortly. There are extensive practise facilities, with a Driving Range complete with shaded driving bays and separate Putting and Pitching Greens. Poggio dei Medici has been the home of the Ladies Italian Open from 1999 to 2003
